Job description
The candidate will be required to work within Aeon Investment Management’s Investment Team and undertake responsibilities relating to portfolio management and fundamental analysis. The role requires a candidate who is willing to work a dual function role in a compact team environment. The team expects the candidate to be both a team player and an independent intellectual committed to working with integrity and honesty. The ideal candidate will be expected to take full responsibility of all assigned work and relish the prospect of gaining broad exposure and contribute their own expertise in the investment management industry with the team. The candidate must be confident their contribution will help Aeon Investment Management remain a resilient, efficient, and effective company. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates. All new staff are expected to complete a four-month probation period.
Job specifications
The job will be primarily an analyst role combined with a team approach to portfolio management as per Aeon Investment Management’s business model with the following key responsibilities:
- Maintain (and where necessary establish) effective and well-organised investment
- Write clear and well-informed investment recommendations based on thorough research and analysis including
- Researching/analysing financial information/trends
- Building clear financial models using ExcelDocumenting investment recommendations & decisions
- Organise regular investment reports and reviews, including quantitative and qualitative portfolio findings.
- Attend annual general meetings, review quarterly financial statements, and remain up to date with any important valuation or policy changes.
- Provide leadership insights towards the investment strategies managed in-house
- Perform regular administration duties of all investment
- Assist the Business Development and Client Services team in relation to
- current client relationships related queries
- prospective client queries e., due diligence questionnaires and presentations
- Pro-active people management including recommendations for training and development and a focus on the development and retention of key team members.
Ideal candidate
Qualifications: A degree in finance or a relevant field from an accredited South African or international institution. Holds at a minimum either a CA (SA), CFA, CAIA, CFP, or FRM designation An actuarial related background will be advantageous as well. If a CFA Candidate: A minimum of CFA level II with a strong commitment to pass CFA Level III
Preferred experience and requirements
- A minimum of five to eight years of related experience in analysis and/or managing equity, fixed income and multi-asset class portfolios.
- A high degree of honesty and integrity is demonstrable in their career to
- Superior understanding and proficiency of fixed income and equity
- Solid experience leading, supervising, and motivating a team of investment
- Proven ability to develop and maintain professional relationships for business development
- Knowledge and understanding of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles including the analytical capability to coordinate integration within the portfolios.
- Knowledge of the South African and global investment trends for listed and alternative

- Excellent Bloomberg and BQL skills
- Python coding skills (highly advantageous)
Screening Process: Will include an aptitude test, psychological assessment, & related investment task. Note: Only open for South African citizens. The appointment is in pursuit of meeting the Broad-Based Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) criteria. Preference will be given to underrepresented groups in South Africa and within the investment team. The preferred candidate will preferably meet the objective of the demographics of 90% Black and 50% Women in South Africa for the firm.
