Aeon Investment Management is a boutique investment management company operating from Cape Town, South Africa. The experienced investment team have the capability to manage a range of equity and absolute return portfolios.

Our Investment Philosophy

At Aeon Investment Management, our investment philosophy is based on the conviction that significant inefficiencies can occur in the market, at different times across a range of asset classes and strategies. A structured investment process which is able to monitor and value a wide range of opportunities is best able to capitalise on these inefficiencies.

We focus on the rigorous process of asset valuation and return modelling, using both fundamental and quantitative analysis. Since it is not possible to perfectly predict future market movements, our process guides us in constructing portfolios that can deliver outperformance of the benchmark in a range of scenarios, over a market cycle.

The investment process is structured to analyse and monitor the risk return characteristics of a wide range of asset classes and investment strategies. Diversifying the sources of alpha gives us the ability to construct portfolios with superior risk return characteristics relative to their benchmarks, providing a consistent level of outperformance with below average risk.

TSHEGO DICHABE

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Bachelor of Accounting (UFS), Postgraduate Diploma in Investment Planning (UFS)

Tshego is the Chief Executive Officer at Aeon Investment Management. She also serves on the board of Aeon Investment Management as an Executive Director.

She joined the firm in the role of Business Development Officer in May 2017. She was appointed the CEO and Executive Director in July 2020.

In her capacity as CEO, Tshego’s role is focused on business strategy and management. Tshego also heads up the Business Development function, where her focus is on institutional and retail business development including brand management.

Tshego is a driven and visionary professional who is an accomplished Model United Nations Debater. She is also the former Vice-President of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) at the University of the Free State, now known as Enactus. She won the Free State Enterprise Job Creation Challenge for Best New Enterprise for a company she co-founded while studying. She is passionate about entrepreneurship, building great organisations and leadership.

Tshego holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from the University of the Free State. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Investment Planning and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the same institution. She has over ten years of financial services experience, including time at PPS Investments and Sanlam Personal Finance.

Tshego is a fellow of the 5th class of the Young Africa Leadership Initiative fellowship, which is affiliated with the Africa Leadership Initiative (ALI) as part of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She is one of the 2024 Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans. Her alma mater is the University of Free State, where she completed her bachelor of Accounting undergraduate & postgraduate qualifications in Investment Planning and Financial Planning. She also completed the online Oxford Leading Strategic Projects Programme at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, UK.

Tshego also serves on as an independent Investment Committee Member of the University of Free State investment committee appointed by the Council.

In her personal capacity, she offers mentorship services through a self-created programme in 2020 called Vision 2:10, which helps select mentees with their professional aspirations.

ASIEF MOHAMED

CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER

Asief is the Chief Investment Officer and founder of Aeon Investment Management. Asief serves on the board of Aeon Investment Management as Executive Director.

In his capacity as Chief Investment Officer, Asief is responsible for the overall investment process and investment outcomes across all strategies, namely, fundamental active equity, quantitative equity and multi-asset class strategies.

As founder and pioneer behind Aeon Investment Management, Asief is driven by excellence and performance. Prior to Aeon Investment Management, he was previously the Chief Investment Officer for Metropolitan Asset Managers.

He is an Independent Trustee of the African Infrastructure Investment Fund. Asief is also a council member of the Financial Sector Transformation Council on behalf of ABSIP.

He serves as an independent non-executive director for the ASISA Academy.

Asief is a qualified Chartered Accountant (South Africa) as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting from the University of Cape Town and has over 34 years industry experience.

JAY VOMACKA

PORTFOLIO MANAGER

Jay is the Senior Portfolio Manager at Aeon Investment Management. He joined the firm in January 2013.

His portfolio management responsibilities span across the fundamental active equity and the multi-asset class portfolios.

Prior to joining Aeon Investment Management, Jay was running a Johannesburg based Hedge Fund, Duality Systems (Pty) Ltd, which amassed an impressive performance record and was subsequently sold for expansionary reasons. Jay started his career at Centaur Asset Management where he worked as a quantitative and research analyst.

Jay is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder and holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand. Jay is also a Certified Financial Technician (CFTe, IFTA) and has 17 years industry experience.

SUMAYAH ANTHONY

FINANCIAL MANAGER

Sumayah is the Financial Manager at Aeon Investment Management. She joined the firm in October 2014 as a graduate. Sumayah started out as a Research Analyst but later found her passion in finance.

She is responsible for the finance function and also oversees the internal compliance function. Sumayah enjoys spending time with family and friends. She believes that success is not about working hard but rather about working smart and having a balanced lifestyle.

Sumayah has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Finance and Investment, both from the University of the Western Cape. She graduated top of her class and was on the Dean’s List for three consecutive years during her studies. She has nine years’ experience.

COURTNEY CLARKE

HEAD OF PERFORMANCE

Courtney is the Head of Performance at Aeon Investment Management. She joined the firm in January 2015 as a graduate. She started as a research analyst focusing on fundamental equity analysis and ESG integration until she found her niche in performance measurement and analytics for all our portfolios.

As the Head of Performance, Courtney is responsible for performance measurement and analytics across the firm. In addition, she assists the investment operations team with the investment fee processes and client requests.

Courtney has a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Finance degree and graduated in March 2015 in the top 10% of her class from the University of the Western Cape (UWC). Furthermore, she completed her BCom Honours in Finance degree at UWC while working at Aeon Investment Management. She has over ten years’ experience within the asset management industry.

SHAUN VAN DEN BERG

RESEARCH ANALYST

Shaun is a Research Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. He joined the firm in March 2019.

He focuses on fundamental and quantitative equity and fixed income analysis for the Aeon Multi-Asset Class Portfolios.

Shaun is passionate about the Quantitative investment space and believes that this is where the future of investment lies. He lives his life by the motto “The path to a brighter future starts with helping others.”

He has a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Sciences from Stellenbosch University and has over four years’ of industry experience.

Shaun wrote his CFA Level III in 2023 and passed; he is now a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

SHAAKIR SALIE

RESEARCH ANALYST

Shaakir is a Research Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. He joined the firm in March 2022 as a part of the Aeon Investment Management Graduate Trainee Program.

His primary focus is fundamental equity analysis.

Shaakir holds a Bachelor of Business Science Degree in Finance from the University of Cape Town, which he completed at the end of 2021.

In 2023, he wrote the CFA Level III examination and successfully passed it. Now Shaakir is currently focused on completing the industry experience required to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter.

Mosele is an ESG Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. She joined the firm in October 2022 as a part of the Aeon Investment Management Graduate Trainee Program.

Her primary duties include ESG research and reporting.

Mosele holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hydrology & Water Resources Management from the Free State Central University of Technology and a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Environmental & Water Science from the University of the Western Cape, which she completed at the end of 2021.

Mosele wrote her CFA ESG Investing in 2023 and now holds the CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing.

ZANDILE MACATYWE

PERFORMANCE & COMPLIANCE ANALYST

B.Com Hons Risk Management (North-West University)

Zandile is a Performance & Compliance Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. She joined the firm in October 2022.

Her primary duties include performance measurement and reporting. Zandile also assists with portfolio compliance.

Zandile holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics and Risk Management and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree in Risk Management from North-West University. She has seven years of financial industry experience, which includes time at Personal Trust, Riscura and Rand Merchant Bank in the performance measurement and compliance areas.

Zandile is a Level I candidate for the Certificate in Investment Performance (CIPM) Program offered by the CFA Institute.

RUSHIL JEENA

RESEARCH & IMPLEMENTATION ANALYST

Rushil is a Research & Implementation Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. He joined the firm in April 2023.

His primary responsibility is the dealing & implementation function, specialised research analysis for the multi-asset class portfolios and auxiliary support for the portfolio management team.

Rushil has over eleven years work experience which comprises extensive auditing, quantitative, finance and financial markets experience. Prior to joining Aeon Investment Management, he worked at the following employers Sygnia Asset Management, First National Bank (FNB), Afrifocus Securities and South African Revenue Services (SARS).

Rushil has obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) charters. He holds a Bachelor of Business Science Degree in Finance from the University of KwaZulu Natal.

ZUHAIR ALLIE

MANAGER: DISTRIBUTION

Zuhair is the Manager: Distribution at Aeon Investment Management. He joined the firm in March 2024 to lead the distribution, and overall value proposition strategy development for Aeon Investment Management.

Zuhair is a seasoned distribution professional, having worked in varying roles in his 16-year career. He recently worked for over 12 years as an Institutional Client Manager at M&G Investments Southern Africa (AuM of over R300 billion), where his primary function was to build and maintain strong client relationships at appropriate levels while working to coordinate client interactions, including report backs, due diligence reviews and other relevant communications.

His former employers include M&G Investments Southern Africa (Institutional Client Manager), Riscura (Risk Analyst (Pension Funds) and before that Close Fund Services (South Africa and Guernsey) as a Senior Portfolio Administrator and Asset Pricing Specialist.

He has completed a Programme in Investment Analysis & Portfolio Management at UNISA and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Finance & Economics from the University of Cape Town.

YONELISA PETSE

RESEARCH ANALYST

Yonelisa is a Research Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. He joined the firm in March 2024 as part of the investment team.

His primary responsibility is research analysis, which spans across the fundamental active equity and the multi-asset class portfolios.

Yonelisa is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering) degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. Prior to joining our company, he worked as an analyst at Fundhouse, specializing in portfolio analytics and analysis.

He was part of the graduate programme in one of the big four banks in South Africa, where he was introduced to financial markets and worked in the trustee services team. His work included pension fund performance and attribution. His time in the industry so far has allowed him to explore various facets of investment management, particularly in fundamental analysis, asset allocation, portfolio construction, and implementation.

Currently, Yonelisa is a Level II candidate in the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) program.

MUNEER AHMED

PORTFOLIO MANAGER & ANALYST

Muneer is a Portfolio Manager & Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. He joined the firm in August 2024.

His primary responsibility is portfolio management and research analysis which span across the fundamental active equity and the multi-asset class portfolios.

He has over ten years work experience spanning auditing, fundamental equity analysis, and financial markets including both buy and sell side coverage. His former employers include Prescient Securities and Denker Capital (as an Equity Analyst) and PWC as an Audit Manager (including his articles as a trainee Auditor).

Muneer is a Chartered Accountant South Africa (CA(SA)) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Cape Town.

Chanté is a Research Analyst at Aeon Investment Management. She joined the firm in August 2024 as part of investment team.

Her primary responsibility within the investment team is fundamental equity analysis.

She has a little over two years’ worth of valuable industry experience. Prior to joining Aeon Investment Management, she was part of the Excelsia team working as a Trainee Equity Analyst and eventually an Equity Analyst, covering both local and global stocks.

Chanté holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Financial Management from Stellenbosch University and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Financial Management from UNISA.

She is a Level III candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme. We are committed to seeing Chanté become a CFA charterholder as a member of our investment team.

Zizipho is a Client Fund Manager at Aeon Investment Management. She joined the firm in September 2024.

Her primary responsibility is institutional client management and ESG analysis in the investment team working alongside the ESG & Research team.

She has over four years’ worth of extensive experience in investment operation administration, trade implementation, fund cash management.

Her former employers include Denker Capital, Curo Fund Services and Intembeko Investment Administrators.

Charlene is the Manager: Office & Finance Support at Aeon Investment Management. She joined the firm in October 2024.

Her primary responsibility is managing the office administration and offer support in the finance department working alongside the Financial Manager.

She has over five years work experience spanning hospitality management, office administration and bookkeeping. Her former employers include Evergreen Lifestyle Retirement Villages, The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel and The Plettenberg Hotel.

Charlene holds a National Diploma in Hospitality Management from Central University of Technology including a Higer Certificate in Accounting from Mancosa. She is currently busy with a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Management from Mancosa.

Thulani is the Chief Executive at Berekah Value Investments, an SMME investment holding firm that is invested in the fuel retail, property and fast-food sectors. Thulani’s areas of expertise include Private Equity, Fuel Retail, Corporate Finance, Economic Appraisal, Infrastructure Finance Management, Project Management and Policy Development. Thulani holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Applied Economics, both from the University of Cape Town.

Industry Experience:

Réjane is a former investment professional and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA charterholder) with an illustrious career having held the positions of Chief Economist and Head of International Portfolio Investments at Metropolitan Asset Managers and Research Analyst at a US investment bank, Merrill Lynch, in the economics and fixed-income sales and trading departments.

Réjane left the investment industry in 2009 to focus on a not-for-profit organisation, the Bulungula Incubator (BI), which she co-founded in 2007 and currently serves as Director.

The BI runs an integrated rural development programme in a remote part of the former Transkei of the Eastern Cape and manages numerous projects Pre-conception to Career, spanning education, health and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods (job creation) and Vibrant Villages (youth development) programmes. This work is leveraged and scaled through the active development of partnerships and networks with other non-profits, government and corporates. The Bulungula Incubator has had several notable successes impacting national policy and effecting the extension of services to other rural communities.

Réjane has previously served as a board member of the Public Investment Corporation (PIC).

Asief Mohamed has over 34 years of asset management experience. He was the Chief Investment Officer for Metropolitan Asset managers. As the founding director and pioneer of Aeon Investment Management, he is driven by excellence and performance.
